2017 PAINTINGS
My painting practice has mostly been independent from my undergraduate work mostly with the desire to explore materials, practices, and facilities that I did not have easy access to outside of the college setting. Many of the themes, methods, and overall evolution of my painting practice have stemmed from my undergraduate classes but painting was saved for during winter break and after graduation. This was the beginning of a deeper exploration of the emotional and physical body through geometric abstraction.
UNDERGRADUATE WORK
I majored in Interdisciplinary Art and minored in Creative Writing at Alfred University for my undergraduate degree. As a part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, my classes were a holistic mix of art studio, history, and theory classes with liberal arts and writing classes. As such, I took the opportunity to explore as many different materials, processes, and practices as I could. My creative writing minor fostered an autobiographical focus using essay writing and poetry. My undergraduate thesis exhibition combined painting, sculpture, performance, and ekphrastic poetry. Highlighted coursework include: neon, ceramic tile, performance art, creative nonfiction, and long poetry.
